About this Print
No syncretic form, no crown of another god — only Antinous, painted in the encaustic tradition of his own Roman Egypt. This is the closest surviving painting style to his actual lifetime, the technique used for the very portraits bound into mummy wrappings across the province where he was later worshipped as Osiris. Warm-lit, direct-gazed, unmistakably present — a face meant to be recognized rather than merely admired. For those whose devotion begins with the young man himself, before any god was laid over him.
